Sponsoring Children :
The Mountain Trust helps put sponsors and the neediest Nepali children together to enable children to attend school. These include orphans and children born into riverbed families (who without outside help are condemned to crush stones for building sand instead of attend school from the age of 18 months). We do not act as a conduit for funds to other NGOs working in Nepal since we cannot always guarantee they are above board. We only channel funds to children who we have made thorough checks on and can be sure their need is genuine.
This page contains details of children seeking sponsorship - and we have done background checks on to ensure they are genuine cases. We ensure regular feedback on the progress of the children to their sponsors. Sponsors are free to send letters and modest gifts to their sponsored student(s) via the Mountain Trust. For further details, please ask.
Here are the details of students in need of support from Bal Mandir Secondary School in Pokhara. The school did not approach the Trust. Instead we heard about their worthwhile endeavours and visited unannounced. We were the first NGO to visit or find help for the school's neediest students. (Please note that whilst we try to update this site regularly it is possible that the individual(s) you choose below may have already received support. If so, we will advise and request you to make one or more second choices. As you will see from the details below, the cost of sponsoring a child is very low - from approximately 4500 to 7500 Nepalese Rupees (which is roughly 36 to 60 Pounds for a year's education).
(By the way, it is Nepali custom to look serious and dour in passport photographs. We apologise in advance for poor quality and absent images but this is a feature of poverty).
Very shortly we will include some basic details on each student hoping to be sponsored (and publish the Trust policy on sponsoring students).
In the meantime, here is our policy on sponsoring students.
