Medical Health Camps

Medical exchanges with Manipal Teaching HospitalIn the remotest parts of Nepal, it can be a three or even a five day walk to the nearest basic medical station and too often the only way is by being carried by others. Because health care is so expensive for people at the sharp economic end, patients tend to present very late. When they do present, all too often, their symptoms are consequently very far advanced. This is what prompted the Mountain Trust to organise Health Camps and to send medical volunteers from the UK to help.

Since shipping our converted Land Rover Ambulance to Nepal, we have provided free treatment to over 1,000 people otherwise unable to afford access medical care. We have an agreement with Gandaki Medical College in Pokhara whereby the Trust covers running costs and the GMC provides voluntary doctors and junior doctors for a regular series of health camps reaching out to deprived communities.
