Progress

Between Spring 2003 and Spring 2004, the Mountain Trust raised over £5000 (100% of which was spent) for schools with large proportions of pupils coming from the slum communities or other low caste groups.

Recent projects supported by the Mountain Trust include:

Lokdeep School, Beni.

Provided sports equipment and school prize.

Nawa Prabhat School, Pokhara.

The school's intake comes predominantly from the slum community nearby.

Provided sports kit, teaching materials & classroom furniture.

Dara Pani School, Nr Naudanda.

Donated sports kit, teaching materials, school prizes, classroom furniture and a teaching block of 5 rooms of varrying size (4 teaching & 1 staff room).

Padampur, Nr Butwal.

Currently constructing a circular building to provide 4 rooms for adult literacy, a youth club, family planning and health awareness services to the village.

This is around 30% complete at present. The plan is to sink a well and pump clean water from the building to each house in a subsequent phase.

Swobodh Sadhana Kendra School, Jhapa.

(School for dalits and low caste orphans.)

So far, we've provided teaching and sports equipment and uniforms. A well and pump have been installed and a toilet block is currently nearing completion.
