Objectives
The Mountain Trust exists to help the hardest
hit communities in Nepal by funding the construction of school
premises, classroom furniture, teaching and sports materials
and uniforms. It also supports the creation of family planning
clinics, youth clubs, adult literacy, health awareness workshops
and the provision of clean water supplies. Laterly it has developed
a pioneering form of teaching by FM radio - which has already
begun to show impressive results.
The Trust is also active in sponsoring primary,
secondary and tertiary students to persue their educational
opportunities where they would otherwise be excluded for economic
reasons. The Trust encourages environmental awareness in Nepal
and building constructive relationships between Nepal and the
outside world. We have been active in the Mid-Western Kaski Region
(the second highest populated after the Kathmandu Valley which
is better resourced), in Jhapa (in the far East of Nepal) and
in Rupendehi (near Lumbini in the South of Nepal).
Since our humble beginnings in 2001, we have
raised almost £50,000 - which goes a long way in Nepal.
We have also grown appreciably year on year. For example, in
2006, we raised fractionally above £11,000 whereas by
March 2007, the Trust had raised over £18,000.
We are registered in the UK and in Nepal. For
